The World War II Museum is located on Avenue Paul-Doumer in downtown Nouméa. Its particular structure was built in 1943 by the American army, which used it to store its equipment.
In Nouméa, inside a US Quonset hut from the Pacific war, the Second World War Museum presents life in New Caledonia during the second world conflict: rallying to Free France, the departure of Caledonian and kanak volunteers to the front, the expulsion of Japanese residents from the colony after Pearl Harbor, the installation of the rear base of Australian, American and New Zealand forces in the archipelago, and the transformation of society. Two digital tours are available free of charge on tablets: « 3D Museum, hidden sides of the objects », a 3D object discovery in French, English, Japanese and French sign language, and « War mishaps », a stage game for younger audiences in French.
