Chateaubriand beach on Lifou loyalty island
Every year at the beginning of January, the Luecila tribe, near Chateaubriand, welcomes visitors for days packed with musical, sporting and traditional activities. The programme varies from year to year, but the Miss Lifou and Miss Luecila elections and the preparation and tasting of a giant bougna are always on the agenda! If you’re visiting Lifou, don’t miss this annual event.

National Day in Noumea, New Caledonia
New Caledonia embraces this historic two-day celebration with military parades, fireworks, dances, torchlight processions, and wreath-laying ceremonies. It’s a must for young and old, locals, and visitors alike. Nouméa’s fireworks display rivals the best in mainland France.

Coast to Coast trail event in New Caledonia
A sporting and friendly adventure not to be missed: a two-day linear trail run in teams of three (including at least one woman), crossing the iconic landscapes of both the East and West coasts. The route links villages from one coast to the other, combining physical challenge, team spirit, and exploration of the regions along the way. Organised by Challenge Organisation, this race is one of New Caledonia’s flagship nature and trail events.

Traditional Kanak dance show in New Caledonia
For a full weekend, the Easo tribe in Lifou, the largest of the Loyalty Islands, welcomes visitors. Numerous excursions and workshops are organised. It’s an opportunity to discover Kanak culture, with its songs and dances, traditional fishing and weaving techniques, customs… and the delicious honey produced on the island!
