Recharge your batteries in the heart of the New Caledonian forest at Éco-gîte de la Ouatchoué.
In Boulouparis, on the heights of Ouitchambo, an hour and a quarter from Nouméa, the Éco-gîte de la Ouatchoué sits on a 400-hectare estate between mountain ranges, forests, waterfalls and a river. The large 560-square-metre two-storey house, self-built from wood on stilts, was designed to maximise solar energy. Wood heating, photovoltaic and thermal solar, waste sorting, dry toilets and greywater reuse: an ecological approach structures the place. On site, you'll find an orchard, twelve crayfish-breeding ponds, a koi carp pond and a small farm with hens, peacocks, guinea fowl and ducks. The 150-square-metre common room and equipped kitchen seat up to twenty-six guests. Five bedrooms, terrace and outdoor BBQ. Book your stay.

From the RT1, take the road signposted Ouitchambo. The Éco-gîte is right at the end of this road (about 25 minutes’ drive): drive very slowly past the tribe site, follow the sealed road to the end until it becomes a dirt road, continue to the end of the dirt road, go through 3 gates (closing them behind you) and you’ll arrive at the Éco-gîte on the other side of the ponds.
