Description

Discover the rich maritime history and heritage of New Caledonia.
Completely redesigned, the Maritime Museum of New Caledonia traces the maritime history of the territory and presents the collection from the La Pérouse expedition, for two centuries one of the great mysteries of navigation. The permanent exhibition unfolds across four spaces: the sails of trade with the saga of ore carriers and great sailing ships; the preparations and searches surrounding the La Pérouse expedition; the Caledonian coastal links; the successive waves of maritime migration. Play areas make these stories accessible to younger visitors and families. The archipelago, shaped by the sea, reads here through its most telling artefacts. The museum received the 2020 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best award from TripAdvisor. Book your visit.
