Description

Discover the native species living in this park in the “Green Station” of Farino!
At the crossroads of Farino, Moindou and Sarraméa, the Great Ferns provincial park protects over four thousand five hundred hectares of dense tropical rainforest. Tree ferns reign here, and several Caledonian birds make themselves heard and seen for those who slow down: notou, cagou, green pigeon, Caledonian whistler. The well-known heart of Farino, drawn by a river along one of the trails, ranks among the highlights of the route. On site, you can combine hiking, birdwatching, guided medicinal plants tours and seasonal events scheduled through the year. Plan your visit from the park's official website. Look after the amenities provided by the park (picnic tables, toilets, signs, etc.). Be careful crossing creeks if it's raining heavily. Stay on the signposted footpaths. The park staff are there to help you. They make sure the environment is protected and work to ensure your comfort and safety. Follow their advice. Parc des Grandes Fougères is designed for walkers and mountain bike riders. However, you should keep an eye out for the occasional authorised vehicle. You are not allowed in the hunting buffer zone or in the hunting zone. In case of forest fire risk alert: Green and Yellow: All hiking and mountain biking trails are open. Orange: Only hiking trails near the entrance are accessible to walkers. All mountain biking trails remain open. Access is prohibited for school groups and groups of more than 10 people. Red: All hiking and cycling trails are closed. The park entrance, arboretum, relaxation area, picnic tables and shelters, as well as the treetop adventure course (private paid activity), remain accessible.
