Description
The coral reef, located in the Bourail region, lies at the heart of New Caledonia's western coastal zone, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.
The barrier reef abounds in biodiversity and is a sanctuary for many marine species. As well as being among the most beautiful and diverse on the planet, New Caledonia's reef systems are also among the most well-preserved. The barrier reef is also the longest continuous coral reef in the world, and the wealth of species it shelters makes it a unique ecosystem.
There are many ways to discover this magical place in the Bourail area, from diving to glass-bottom boat trips, which give you the impression of being immersed in a natural aquarium, with hundreds of species of fish, coral and other marine animals. You can also discover the barrier reef from the air, by microlight, which offers a totally different but equally extraordinary perspective.
