Unless you are based in one of our “neighbour” countries - Australia or New Zealand - the closest of which is still around 1,500 km away, New Caledonia is one of those exotic, faraway travel destinations which lie scattered here and there in the midst of the world’s great oceans.

Local airline Aircalin and also Qantas, Air New Zealand and Air Vanuatu operate frequent flights departing from Australia (Sydney and Brisbane) and New Zealand (Auckland).

Aircalin also runs non-stop daily flights from Japan (Tokyo).

Visitors travelling from Europe can fly to New Caledonia via either Australia or Japan; flight times are generally shorter if you fly via Japan.

To take an example: you should reckon on around 25 hours to fly from Paris to Nouméa via Japan, with a time difference of 9 or 10 hours depending on the season.

Weight limit for checked baggage

Depending on which airline you travel with, you will be allowed from 23 or 46 kg of checked baggage in Economy Class, which can be quite an important consideration if you’re planning on staying several weeks in New Caledonia!
