Description

Along the way, you will come across a majestic banyan tree and a breathtaking viewpoint.
This 6.8 km trail, which lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes, is fairly easy. It begins with a wooden platform allowing access to people with disabilities over a distance of 170 m. The walk continues on a path in a humid forest area in the shade of tree ferns. Stairs will allow you to go down to the Mé Péou creek. After crossing it, a good climb will lead you to a majestic banyan tree. At the banyan tree, you can choose to take the crossroads of the same name on your left to reach the codia area (landmark #22) or continue on the trail by taking on your right to reach the false fig tree area (landmark #28). Then turn left and you will reach the Monnier peak located at 529 m of altitude before going down to the codias area. From the codias area, you will start the return to the reception and pass in front of the "bread oven", a vestige of the colonial period and a witness of human presence in this remote area. © Text by SMGF
