Description
The municipality and the river have the same name, “La Foa” (Foha in Xârâcùù).
You can spend a very pleasant day on the river in a canoe or kayak, provided you bring your own.
Crossing a region renowned for its lush landscapes and authenticity, it winds through the heart of a preserved natural environment of hills, plains, and tropical vegetation. This river, which also gave its name to the town of La Foa, plays an important role in local life and in the history of the region.
Its calm waters provide an ideal setting for outdoor activities such as canoeing, kayaking, or family picnics. Visitors particularly appreciate the tranquility of the area, the songs of the birds, and the peaceful atmosphere that reigns along the riverbanks. The river also attracts photography enthusiasts thanks to its shimmering reflections and its panoramic views typical of the Caledonian bush.
One of the best-known symbols of the region is the famous Marguerite Footbridge, an old metal bridge built at the beginning of the 20th century
