Art at the cultural center
Tjibaou, Hienghène, Mont-Dore, Dumbéa – cultural centers and multimedia libraries are an important part to any visit to New Caledonia. A must-see is the Tjibaou cultural center, located in Nouméa, boasting the richness of Melanesian culture of the past and especially of today. Created by architect Renzo Piano, the building is formed from stylized huts that house permanent and temporary exhibits.

New Caledonia is a land that inspires artists. Most of the galleries are found in Nouméa, but isn’t uncommon to find exhibits in hotels in Grande Terre. Exhibits usually last about two weeks and the styles are very eclectic.

Professional and amateur troops put on inspired or classic plays every month. The Théâtre de l’Île often hosts plays from France to delight the actors, who can then perform close to their audience.
