Wajuyu Feast

Maré -

A weekend celebrating the wajuyu, (red snapper) caught offshore of Negone.

Established in 2006 by fishermen from Maré, the Wajuyu Festival celebrates each year in November the only fish that the elders of Nengone catch outside of the lagoon: the snapper. Songs, traditional dances, sporting activities, homestays, cultural encounters and delicious food stalls are on the programme throughout the duration of the festival.
