The traditional dish cooked under hot stones in the ground is called a “bougna” in New Caledonia, a “lovo” in Fiji and a “umu” in Samoa.
End of September until beginning of October, 10 Marriott International resorts of the Pacific islands will be showcasing local and traditional cuisine .Alongside the culinary aspect of the event, guests will also be invited to discover cultures and traditions thanks to unique activities.
In Noumea the event will start on Tuesday, September 24th, New Caledonia's National Day, with a brunch at Le Sextant restaurant. It will be then declined in all the restaurants.Throughout the week guests will be offered a menu of the day with local flavors at Le Faré beachfront restaurant, a buffet dinner at Sextant with entertainment, a menu with French-Melanesian flavours at l’Hippocampe gourmet restaurant and a special cocktail at Latitude 22.
Saturday, September 28, workshops and traditional activities will be offered from 15h in the gardens. The chef will offer a culinary show featuring a traditional dish, to be enjoyed in the evening at Le Sextant. Traditional songs and dances will liven up the restaurant, which will be decorated with tropical colors for the occasion.
On the Isle of Pines on Saturday, September 28, guests will be invited to take part in weaving and sculpture workshops at Le Méridien Ile des Pins before preparing the bougna with our chefs in the gardens. Later in the evening, a “fusion” version of it will be offered at La Pirogue restaurant along with a traditional dance show .
Finally, at the Sheraton Deva on Saturday, October 5th, in addition to traditional and culinary activities, guests will enjoy a local craft market and local products to buy a souvenir or to please a loved one. A traditional dinner will be offered at Sand Beach Grill, feet in the moonlit sand.
