Every year, horse racing fans flock to Nouméa’s Henry Milliard racecourse to watch and bet on the Coupe Clarke, the most prestigious event in New Caledonia’s racing calendar. The stakes are high. A racing stable has to win the 1,600 metre flat race three times running to lay claim to the famous cup.

The number of wins needed to snaffle the cup and keep it to show off in your stables. Only five horses have brought off the feat in the entire history of the race. 

Over the years, the Casino Coupe Clarke has established a reputation for excellence in terms of horseflesh, jockeys and trainers, attracting huge crowds of racegoers united by their passion for horses and racing. 

People come from all over country to watch this classic event. Plenty of fun attractions add extra spice to the day and the atmosphere in the grandstand is electric, with various other flat races and a stockmen’s race included in the day’s schedule.
