With an events calendar packed with colourful cultural festivals and quirky celebrations, there’s never a dull moment in New Caledonia.
New Caledonia has released its vibrant events calendar for 2021, with a line–up of exciting festivals, activities and events designed to showcase the destination’s melting pot of culinary wonders, cultural delights, sports and natural beauty.
Whether participating or spectating, the destination has something for everyone. Sports enthusiasts can experience the New caledonia Ultra Trail, join in the New Caledonia Marathon, or enjoy the legendary South Pacific Open (PGA) golfing tournament.
Foodies will be in heaven with several events celebrating the destination’s fresh produce and flavours on offer. Throughout the year, local villages across the country will host a series of unique festivals dedicated to the avocado, yam, lobster, vanilla and more.
New Caledonia’s distinct French influence will also make for some extravagant celebrations during 2021. The France's Cheese Route, taking place in Noumea, will offer over 100 varieties of artisan cheese for tasting, while the national Bastille Day festivities will feature a traditional military parade, music, dancing and grand fireworks display.
Music aficionados won’t want to miss the Blackwoodstock Rock and Francofolies festivals – enjoy a melodic smorgasbord of talented local and international artists while soaking up New Caledonia’s island sun and surrounds.

Giant Omelette Festival (TBC)

This peculiar festival takes place every year around Easter time in the town of Dumbea, on the outskirts of Noumea. It involves the creation of a giant omelette, to celebrate a legend that Napoleon and his army feasted on a similarly oversized version of the egg dish when travelling through the south of France. Be sure to arrive hungry!
Avocado Festival (Cancelled)
CULTURE l MARE, LOYALTY ISLANDS
Hosted by the Nece tribal village on the Loyalty Islands’ remote island of Maré, this traditional annual event celebrates the islands primary commodity. Enjoy avocado tasting as well as music and traditional dances.
New Caledonia Ultra Trail (10 & 11 July)
SPORT l MONT-DORE, GREAT SOUTH
One of the most important trail in New Cal which takes place in the Great South. It is a 132 km timed race. It is a very nice way to discover provincial parks and a part of the South Long Hiking Trail!
Bastille Day and its Paper Lantern Festival (13 July)
With New Caledonia’s French connection, Bastille Day in Noumea is a major celebration. Expect to see a parade of glowing lanterns throughout the main streets, a big community dance in Place de La Marne followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
Bourail Fair (13 - 15 August)
This annual event is a must see. Enjoy local Caledonian produce, and meet the country’s cattle farmers and their livestock. Watch the real cowboys of the New Caledonia as they participate in an exciting rodeo. Yee-haw!
New Caledonia International Marathon (29 August)
Established in 1983, the New Caledonia International Marathon has become a major event in the New Caledonian sporting calendar. Run on a spectacular scenic course along Noumea’s bay, the event continues to attract a high-level of competitors from around the world.
Megarando Biking Event (4 & 5 September)
Cross country biking fans are in for a treat with this weekend-long trail riding event in the superb Deva Domain. Trails are on offer for kids and adults, keen amateurs and ultra-serious bikers alike. Offering a lot of great atmosphere, a little sporting challenge and plenty of family fun, the Mégarando weekend is hugely popular amongst locals and visitors.
South Pacific Golf Championship (TBC)
Arguably the biggest golf event in New Caledonia, the South Pacific Golf Championship is one of the 13 tournaments held in the PGA Tour. The 2020 tournament will once again be played at Tina Golf Course, Noumea, and Exclusiv Golf Deva, Bourail providing an opportunity to explore the destination’s offerings.
This two-day festival celebrates all things French language and music. The festival is of course linked to the famous Francofolies Festival in La Rochelle (France), but is also strongly oriented towards the world of Oceania, with the aim of presenting the different cultures across the entire Pacific. Enjoy a melodic smorgasbord of local and international artists while basking in the New Caledonian sun.
Blackwoodstock Festival (29 oct. - 1st nov.)
Now in its eighth year, the Blackwoodstock Rock Arts and Music Festival offers music-lovers three days of open air concerts in the fabulous setting of Fort Téremba, on New Caledonia’s west coast. Get ready for a celebration of music from talented local and international artists, theatre and visual arts. Festival goers can camp onsite for an immersive festival experience or opt for comfort with accommodation in the nearby La Foa and Bourail areas.
France's Cheese Route (TBC)
The France's Cheese Route organised by Chateau Royal Beach Resort and Spa. It is a annual unmissable rendez-vous around the richness of French gastronomy and its famous cheese!
New Caledonia Triathlon (28 November)
Established in 1985, the New Caledonia Triathlon is now a major annual sporting event with more than 300 athletes from around the world gathering in Noumea each year to take part. With the course following the breathtaking coastline, it’s no surprise competitors keep returning.
