Celebrating a freshwater spring beneath the salty sea!

  • Ura Fair - Maré - îles Loyauté

In the Nengone language (spoken in Maré), “ura” means a spring and the island boasts an unusual source of freshwater gushing straight from the seabed.
The Maré islanders honour their freshwater spring with a friendly and colourful annual fair featuring a bumper market and stalls selling arts & crafts and refreshments. Visitor attractions also include trips exploring local beauty spots.
